01 — What we test

The appliance,
not the paperwork.

A PAT test is a sequence of checks, not a sticker. The same order every time, in front of you, with a record of what each appliance did.

01 / inspect

The appliance and its lead

Casing, flex, plug and socket. A cracked moulding or a taped join is a fail before the instrument is even connected.

  • Casing & strain relief
  • Plug, fuse & lead along its length
  • Socket & any extension lead

02 / test

The electrical tests

Earth continuity, insulation resistance and polarity. The meter proves the path to earth is intact and that live and neutral are where they should be.

  • Earth continuity
  • Insulation resistance
  • Polarity & wiring

03 / record

The sticker and the register

Every appliance that passes gets a dated label. Pass or fail, it goes on the asset list with its result — so next year starts with a record, not a guess.

  • Dated pass label
  • Asset ID & result recorded
  • Signed certificate by email

02 — What fails

Three ways a plug
lets you down.

Most failures are not dramatic. A lead trapped in a drawer, a fuse swapped for the wrong rating, insulation that has quietly given up.

A cable with a cut sheath exposing the live conductor SHEATH CUT

    Damaged lead or plug

A cut sheath, a bent pin, a plug that has been stood on. The copper is still doing its job — until it isn’t.

  2. 02plug check
    A fuse holder marked for a 3 amp fuse with a 13 amp fuse beside it RATED 3 A 13 A

    Wrong fuse

A 13 A fuse in a 3 A appliance. The plug still works, so nobody notices — the fuse no longer protects the flex.

  3. 03instrument
A cable cross-section with a broken insulation ring and a path to earth MΩ TO EARTH INSULATION

    Failed insulation

No scorch mark, no crack, no clue. Insulation resistance has dropped below the pass level and only the test finds it.

04 — How a visit works

Booked, tested,
certificated.

No need to move everything into one room. Appliances are tested where they are, tagged as we go, and everything is on the certificate at the end.
